Ayamon Holmes has revealed that he once told Anne Robinson that he would “knock the king’s head” after criticism from his parents.
The broadcaster angrily recalled the countdown host when he claimed he had “sacrificed his father for fame” while commenting on how Ayman had balanced his career in London and the family in Northern Ireland.
The Morning Star, 61, made the revelation in an exclusive interview on RTÉ One’s The Meaning of Life on Sunday.
Eamonn began: “It’s coming from a man who will fly back from London for his children’s school sports days, taking his last flight from Belfast at 10pm when he hangs them up in bed. It was 8 o’clock at night, you know, who was there for them at all times.
“And this is the man who went to the airport lounge one Sunday morning, in Belfast, and there was another man in that lounge, and he was Anne Robinson.
“I went to him and I said straightforwardly and heartily, ‘If you were a bully I would knock your king’s head off. I want you to know that.’
The Morning TV host claims that Ann, 76, responded to her anger by saying that she was just joking, but later sat down on the plane together and apologized for her comments.
Eamon added: “Then Anne Robinson asked me to sit next to her on the plane and I thought twice about it and I sat next to her, and we talked very enlightenedly, very There was a sensible conversation, and he apologized.
“What can you do when someone apologizes? You have the choice to forgive or not, and I decided to forgive.”
Eamonn has three children with his ex-wife, Gabriel. Declan, Rebecca and Niall, who still live in Belfast.
After their divorce, the TV star married Ruth Langsford in 2010 and they have a son, 19-year-old Jack.
In the same RTÉ interview, Eamon broke down crying at her late father - 31 years after his sudden death.
The Morning Host’s father, Leonard, suffered a heart attack while driving in the countryside of Northern Ireland at the age of 65 and wrote his 2006 autobiography, This Is My Life.
The presenter was in London for Easter in 1991 when his parents and younger brother Connor spent the weekend in their caravan at the beach in Bali Castle, Antrim.
After the weekend, Eamon called her parents’ home on April 3, hoping to hear all about their trip, but got no answer, nor did she call 30 minutes later.
At 7 p.m.
The broadcaster writes in his book that his father suddenly fell ill and he was dragged on the road and could not get out of the driver’s seat - but on a country road and without the phone, Eamonn’s mother Josie can do nothing. Were
Coincidentally, a family friend, John Linehann, was visiting the area and came to their aid while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.
After hearing the devastating news, Eamonn arrived at Heathrow Airport and managed to board the last flight to Belfast to be with his family.
The TV star said his mother, Josie, never overcame Leonard’s death, while Eamonn explained that he had never been sad to see his father’s body in the morgue.
