Glasgow is ready to help older people re-mow with a new scheme.

After the sudden closure of the Assisted House Garden Maintenance Scheme during an epidemic last year, no service was left to help them keep their green spaces clean.

It is set to launch next month.

North East Labor Councilor Maureen Burke expressed concern about the actual loss of horticultural assistance and asked what could replace it.

Councilor Burke said: “No one has been notified that it has been withdrawn. People did not have time to prepare. Now we have gardens that look cruel. Many of our weak and elderly people have been affected. Required.

He asked residents to tell when the new City Makers scheme will start and what the standards will be.

Addressing a Glasgow City Council meeting, SNP councilor Angus Miller said the Citymakers program would focus on “improving the environment in neighborhoods across the city.”

He said: “The work will be carried out in partnership and in consultation with local communities to address environmental issues and address local issues. It is hoped that this will benefit the wider community. ۔

The Convener on Environment, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction told councilors that 75 new workers are being recruited under the employment scheme, which provides training and employment opportunities.

He pointed out that the Glasgow Integration Joint Board was responsible for withdrawing funding for the former Assisted House Garden Maintenance Scheme.

The new program is funded and delivered by Jobs & Business Glasgow (JBG).
