This Easter period was the first in three years without any Covid restrictions and good weather has helped to start the season off this year in a great way.

There were many crowds on the boardwalks and in the harbour, with long lines of people waiting to board the pleasure cruise ship Yorkshire Belle.

People also visited Sewerby Hall and Gardens in large numbers to enjoy the traditional jousting.

England’s number one knight team from Nottingham brought 20 knights to the venue, including the Black Knight and Sir Michael of York on Easter Sunday, captivating the crowd with their horsemanship and displays of weapons.

The event has long been an integral part of the Easter Adventures program, but this was the first time since 2019 that jousting could take place.

Tim Norman, Bridlington City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Councilor and owner of the Royal Hotel in Bridlington, said: “Weekend was very busy.

“It was a typical Easter weekend when you can’t plan earlier than four days in advance.

“All of a sudden the weather forecast comes in and the number of booked rooms skyrockets.

“Internet bookings and phone calls have skyrocketed.

“It was a really good weekend for business and the city. It was great to see so many people in the harbor riding speed boats and pirate ships, it was just wonderful.

“Overall, I think the city’s businesses will perform very well.

“They have been looking forward to an open Easter without Covid restrictions for the past three years and this has been a great opportunity to make up for what they have missed.

“While Covid is still around and people need to be aware of social distancing, we want things to return to normal and people to profit after hard times.

“If we can continue this fantastic weather, not a cloud in the sky, it’s amazing, it could be a good year.

“If the weather is favorable, we hope to dissuade people from boarding planes and convince them to come to the sea.

“Airports have been having trouble this year, so it’s time to visit the Bridlington area.”
