In India, a woman has been hospitalized in a critical condition after her husband and sister-in-law allegedly forced her to drink acid to confront the man about her unmarried relationship.
The incident took place in Gwalior, a city in the northern Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, on June 28 when the 25-year-old victim found out that her husband was in love. Times of India Reportedly, when confronted by his wife, the man brutally beat her and allegedly forced her to drink acid.
The woman was admitted to a local hospital by a neighbor. However, when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a major hospital in New Delhi, the capital of India, for treatment on Monday.
Following the revelation of the incident, members of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), a government agency set up to investigate issues related to women’s safety and security, met with the victims and doctors.
“She is in a critical condition and doctors say her internal organs are completely burnt out. The woman’s food pipe, stomach and intestines are burnt and visible. The investigation revealed that a police complaint was lodged by the victim’s mother on July 3, but no action was taken against the accused.

He added that he had written a letter to the Madhya Pradesh chief minister “asking him to arrest the culprits and ensure action against the police officers.”
A DCW team is currently assisting the woman at the hospital. However, it is unknown if the accused has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Earlier this year, a woman in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh killed her boyfriend by throwing acid after learning of his plans to marry someone else. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder and voluntary use of acid to inflict serious injuries.
