Footballer Benjamin Mandy was shocked after expecting a luxury stay in jail when HMP entangled the VP wing of Altcourse for the ‘VIP’ wing.
The Manchester City defender’s misconception is that English is not his first language.
Mandy, 29, was jailed in Liverpool on Friday on four counts of rape and sexual assault.
This week, a source told The Sun that the footballer had a “disgusting awakening” as he walked towards the “VP” – for the weaker inmates – the “VIP wing for celebrities” instead of the wing.
The footballer, who denies all charges against him, has now been kept out of the main prison population.
Although Mandy does not live in luxury behind bars, many prisoners do.
Here we reveal the prisons that are like five star hotels and palaces.
£ 250 Cost
HMP Berwyn in Wrexham was named the “most attractive prison” in 2019 when claims surfaced that inmates could spend up to 250 250 a week on their cells.
Items included CDs, DVDs, electronic devices, clothing, phone credits and groceries.
The Daily Mail reported that the money was collected from work in prison, transferred from their personal accounts or sent through friends and family.
Angry people called it a “holiday camp” and Conservative MP Philip Holloway thought it was “a supermarket sweep rather than a prison.”
Sports channels, football coaching and climbing wall.
In 2017, it was reported that there was an incredible supply of sports equipment for inmates at HMP Park in Burgundy, Wales.
It includes two flood-season football pitches seen by Cardiff City FC coaches.
Other facilities reported by the Daily Star include a climbing wall, a tennis court, a gym and a sports hall.
The allegations came as an angry prison official backed away from “sighing”, saying it was just a violation of his human rights to gain access to limited sports channels.
The man, who did not want to be named, said he was “hacked” so that he could only watch Sky Sports 1 and not Sky Sports 2 or 3.
Back-off competitions and ‘royal treatments’.‘
The infamous Rose West, who killed at least 12 women and girls along with her late husband Fred, is said to have enjoyed some luxury.
In 2010, a former inmate from HMP Lou Newton told the Sunday Mercury that “the guards see that he gets what he wants.”
She also claimed that she considered herself the “queen of the wing”, persuaded the guards to lock her in her cell and remove her prison facilities.
Catherine Jones, who also spent time with the notorious killer, told the Sunday People that the West received “preferential treatment.”
In 2018, she claimed that West was “allowed to shower herself” and that she could work in “her own sewing room.”
The Sun also reported that inspired by The Great British Back Off, West was crowned Star Baker in 2018 and fellow inmates were lured with baked treats.
PS4 with a flat screen TV and pairs.
HMP Altcourse, where Mandy currently lives, made headlines in 2017 when photos of a break appeared on Facebook.
The Star reported that the man was “playing PS4 on a flat-screen TV in his cell” and “boasting about a pair of smokers who were smuggled into prison.”
It has since grown into other luxuries, including an impressive food menu, gym, tennis court and healthcare.
‘Like a hotel room’
According to East and Gangster biographer Fred Deniz, Ronnie Curry is said to have managed to decorate his prison “the way he wanted”.
The author claims that he had “really a very smart room” decorated with “all kinds of yellow and purple colors” and that he had a nice dressing table with pictures and ornaments on it.
Dange revealed that the thug was not just a luxury – he remained in Broadmore Hospital until his death in 1995.
This year, he told the Daily Star: “He was allowed a record player in his room. It was very much Ron’s room. It felt like a hotel bedroom!
Curry managed to find a tailor once in the twin years to make a new suit and at one point agreed to be his personal butler.
A brand new 3 253 million prison is still under construction in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, but once completed, there will be plenty to enjoy.
These include their low bar windows on the nearby fishing river, landscaped gardens, a gardening area and large prison wings.
The site will consist of seven X-shaped blocks instead of the traditional K-shape and will hold 1,680 prisoners.
Sex twice a week and once a day.
Last November, Anne Weedcombe revealed the loot at Norway’s Haldane Prison, which she called “luxury apartments for rapists and murderers.”
Her documentary, the world’s most luxurious prison, has surprisingly revealed that some inmates were allowed to have sex with their peers twice a week in a lock-up.
Leagues enjoyed en suite bathrooms, TV access and a state-of-the-art recording studio اور and not only that, some inmates were allowed up to eight hours a day to get out of prison.
One inmate remarked: “This is a spa, this is a vacation resort!”
‘BBQs, nightclubs and strips’
Back in 2013, Venezuela’s San Antonio Prison once boasted of a swimming pool, overnight accommodation for guests, BBQs and plenty of places to drink.
Ricardo, a convicted drug dealer, claimed that it was not like a prison at all and that it was great. Many people did not want to leave on the SBS date line.
It was also alleged that Kinsey had access to “guns, drugs and everything” and enjoyed a party lifestyle.
The lock-up, located on Margarita Island, also caught fire when a nightclub opened the same year, allegedly with DJs, lights and strippers.
Sunbathing, fishing and horseback riding.
In another Norwegian prison, rapists and murderers are said to be living in unimaginable luxury for British officials.
In 2019, Bastai prison inmates were reported to enjoy recreational activities including horseback riding, fishing and tennis.
Leagues had the choice of working on the island for money, educating themselves with courses or strolling in the sun.
Arne Karnok Nelson, who managed the lock-up for five years until 2013, told The Guardian that it had a positive effect on prisoners.
It was claimed that Norway’s different views on imprisonment “helped change people” and led to the lowest refund rates – less than 30% at the time.
Kamasutra sex rooms and video games
In 2017, Honduras were shocked when more luxury photos surfaced from some gang members in prison.
The suspects were found in possession of air-conditioned cells, a 52-inch flat-screen TV, computer game consoles and games including FIFA and Grand Theft Auto.
CEN claimed that there is also a ‘Kamasutra’ room, which was taken out with a mirror and wide light for sexual visits of wives and girlfriends.
It was alleged that the privileges were reserved for thugs who influenced their gang boss while Marco Orilio Soto of Tamara, Honduras, was in prison.
Pablo Escobar, a notorious Colombian drug lord, managed to persuade authorities to allow him to be imprisoned in 1991.
After years of running away, he agreed to surrender until he could be included in his excavations, which he called ‘La Cathedral’.
Escobar agreed to end his tide of domestic terrorism in exchange for a five-year prison sentence, with his own bodyguards and soldiers outside the fort to protect him.
From the outside, it looked like another prison, but the luxuries inside earned it the titles of “Club Madeleine” and “Hotel Escobar”.
Located on a steep hillside, the majestic lock-up had a jacuzzi, sauna and a pool with a waterfall, as well as an industrial kitchen and billiard rooms with large-screen TVs.
It was also claimed that Escobar had hosted wedding receptions, discos and the Colombian national team during his ‘imprisonment’.
Viral dance routines
At the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in the Philippines, the record of prisoners is different from other types.
This year, they set a world record for the largest number of prisoners dancing in one place at a time.
Over the years, Lockup has taught inmates dance routines, including Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Queen’s Radio Gaga.
Many of his performances have gone viral, including Saisi’s 2012 hit gang style.
