Westminster tube station fire: 40 firefighters deal with incident near parliament.

Forty firefighters are on fire at Westminster’s London Underground station.

Six fire engines have been called to Westminster Station on Bridge Street.

Staff were called before 11.30am on a report of smoke coming out of the electrical room inside the station.

About 100 people were evacuated from a station near Parliament in central London.

The London Fire Brigade said the incident was under control and the cause was unknown.

A statement from the London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters were called in to smoke from an Westminster station electric room on Bridge Street in Westminster.

“Firefighters were called to a large amount of smoke from an electrical room inside the basement of the station. About 100 people left the station before the brigade arrived.

The brigade was called at 11:29 a.m. and the incident was under control until 12:49 p.m. Firefighters from Lambeth, Euston, Old Kent Road and Soho Fire Stations attended the scene.

The cause of the smoke will be investigated in due course.
