If you are looking for a beach to go to on your next trip, you can do a lot worse than the ones on this list.
tripadvisor ranks the best beaches in the world as part of the Traveller’s Choice Awards 2022, and of the top 10 beaches in Europe, two are in the UK – practically on our doorstep.
The basics are the same – sea, sand – but each beach offers its own characteristics.
Kleftiko Beach, for example, is a great place for snorkeling and boat trips.
Bamburgh Beach offers castle views as well as all the nautical activities.
Whether you’re looking for a place to stay or want to venture a little further, here’s their list of stunning coastlines for you to choose from.
Spiaggia dei Conigli
Lampedusa, islands of Sicily
The best spot in Europe goes to this stunning Italian beach in Sicily, which one reviewer called “one of the wonders of the world.”
Praia da Falesia
Olhos de Agua, Portugal
This beach in the Algarve is almost 6 km long and is surrounded by impressive red and white cliffs.
Playa de Muro beach
Playa de Muro, Mallorca, Spain
Reviews say that this Spanish beach is very family friendly given the shallow waters.
Ayia Napa, Cyprus
Reviews say that the clear water at Nissi Beach is shallow enough for people to walk across the road to the island.
Kissamos, Crete, Greece
Fifth place goes to Balos Lagoon, which is a bit off the beaten track, and reviews say it can be difficult to drive your regular rental car on rough roads, but well worth it.
You can only get to Kleftiko by boat, but there are plenty of day trip snorkelling and boat trips to choose from to get there.
Isle of Harris, Scotland
Coming in at number seven, and number one among UK beaches, is Luskentyre, Scotland, described in one review as “one of the most magical beaches in the world.”
Bamburgh, Northumberland, UK
The second British beach to make the list is Bamburgh Beach in England, which overlooks a picturesque castle steps from the sand.
Costa Calma, Fuerteventura, Spain
Reviewers, unsurprisingly, love this beach, praising its fine white sand, inviting water, and quiet and uncrowded shore.
Spiaggia di Cala Rossa
Isola di Favignana, Italy
The second Italian beach on the list, Spiaggia di Cala Rossa, requires a bit of a walk, but its crystal clear waters and gorgeous scenery still make it very popular.
