A mysterious disease that has killed dozens of children has spread to 30,000 people and could continue to spread amid fears.
The bug – also known as scrub typhus or dengue fever – is spreading rapidly in a northern Indian state.

About 30,000 people in Kanpur city are now infected with the pest. Local media.
More than 40 people – mostly children – have reportedly died from the virus in the past week.
Many sufferers are hospitalized with joint pain, headaches, dehydration and nausea.
In some cases, patients also suffer from a decrease in platelets, an important part of the circulatory system that allows blood to clot.
All patients have been tested for corona virus, and so far no link between the two diseases has been found.
There are conflicting reports about what the mysterious disease is.
Some patients have reportedly tested positive for dengue fever. Other sources Claim that the disease is scrub typhus.
Scrub typhus is spread by the bite of infected insects.
During World War II, there was an outbreak of scrub typhus in some countries.
There were significant outbreaks of the disease in India in 2003 and 2007.
There is no vaccine against scrub typhus – another pandemic.
Serious cases require hospitalization, but symptoms can disappear without treatment after two weeks.
Doxycycline and antibiotics are effective treatments for scrub typhus if administered early.
‘Die too soon’
The mysterious disease is putting special pressure on the hospitals of Ferozabad city.
“Patients in hospitals, especially children, are dying very fast,” said Nita Kalshrista, the most senior health official in Ferozeabad district.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has promised to help the families of those suffering from the disease.
“Dedicated Kovid 19 ward at Ferozabad District Hospital is reserved for patients suffering from this fever,” he said.
The country has already been overwhelmed by Covid 19, especially the Delta variant, which has spread like wildfire, killing about 440,000 people.
Dengue is a viral infection caused by a mosquito, which occurs in tropical and sub-tropical seasons around the world, mostly in urban and semi-urban areas.
Dengue, transmitted by female mosquitoes, is primarily a tropical disease and has been circulating in India for hundreds of years.
Although many infections cause only mild illness, cases can lead to potentially fatal complications.
According to the World Health Organization, in its most severe form, there is no specific treatment.
What is scrub typhus?
Scrub typhus, also known as bush typhus, is a disease caused by a bacterium called Orienta sotsugamoshi.
Scrub typhus is spread by the bite of infected chiggers (larvae mites).
The most common symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, headache, body aches and sometimes itching.
Most cases of scrub typhus are found in rural areas of Southeast Asia, Indonesia, China, Japan, India and northern Australia.
Anyone living or traveling in areas where scrub typhus is found can be affected.
Symptoms of scrub typhus usually begin within 10 days of the bite.
