Surrogate alcohol poisoning in Orenburg, Russia: 34 killed

In the Orenburg region of Russia, investigators opened eight more criminal files in connection with the alcohol poisoning.

According to Svetlana Petrenko, an official representative of Russia’s Investigative Committee, investigators established the involvement of newcomers to the crime, bringing the total number of defendants to 15. Eight of them have already been detained.

Police officers found more than 1.8 million rubles in the home of one of the organizers of the illegal business. Russia’s Investigative Committee has registered 14 criminal cases of large-scale alcohol poisoning in the Orenburg region.

“The suspects purchased a type of industrial alcohol called ‘technical inhibitor’, which is used in the manufacture of anti-corrosion compounds, among other things,” the investigation committee’s press service said.
