Last week’s reports showed that FC Barcelona had finally reached an agreement with Lionel Messi. However, the deal has not been signed, and the club is growing under pressure from their patrons.
It is no secret that the club has attracted a number of partners due to the presence of the widely known Argentine in the squad. Summer is in full swing and the same sponsors had to halt their plans for upcoming advertising campaigns due to the uncertainty surrounding Macy’s future.
Obviously, no one wants to start making pictures and other content without the stars of the show. Barcelona President John Laporta has insisted that things are progressing well and called for calm and patience. However, sponsors cannot stop their promotions for long.
Fans and club members may be furious, but there is nothing compared to sponsors who do not know if they will be able to work with Messi next season. This puts Barcelona in a precarious position, especially since several sponsors must be renewed later this year.
In addition, the club fell into hot water against two current key partners, Konami and Rakuten, two of their players, thanks to a racist scandal. Recently, a video taken by Osmane Dumble went viral, mocking the Japanese hotel staff while teammate Antonin Griezmann had a weird laugh with him.
Konami has already severed personal ties with Griezmann, and it is understood the two Japanese-based companies are not letting the incident go easily. Basically, the club now runs the risk of damaging their relationships with more sponsors.
There seems to have been some progress in Griezmann’s return to Atletico Madrid, which will hit two birds with one stone. They will be able to relieve the Japanese sponsors by allowing the French citizen to go, and at the same time they will be free from the huge salary.
