Memorial mosaic in memory of our loved ones lost due to Covid – Timber Sky

Please come and join in decorating the memorial stones to remember all the loved ones lost due to Covid. The plan is that the completed stones will then be placed in a heart shape and later placed in Blackhill Park.

Below is all the information about what you need, time, etc.:

• Monday, February 28, from 14:00 to 19:00 (last admission at 18:00).

• It takes approximately 1 hour to decorate the stone/stone.

Location: Park Lodge, Blackhill Park.

Parking: There is a large free car park next to the park. Access is either from Laburnum Avenue, along Mans Street, or from Durham Road, just above The Cricketers Pub, along Dixon Street and turn left onto Mans Street. Both routes are signposted. The lodge has ramp access to the front door and level access throughout. An adapted toilet is located on the first floor, next to the classroom where the seminar takes place.

• Stones should be smooth, approximately 8-15 cm long or round, and washed in a mild detergent/dishwashing liquid, rinsed and dried thoroughly before decorating.

• Please wear old clothes and/or take work clothes as paint will be used.

• The session will be hosted by artist Carrie Dennison, who will provide quality gesso (a type of primer), acrylics and Posca markers for detailing, and brushes and pencils will also be available.

Health and Safety Information: All materials will be safe to use and full instructions and recommendations will be offered. The artist has her own liability insurance and a risk assessment is being conducted for the practice art workshops at The Lodge.

• While the government has lifted COVID-19 restrictions, The Lodge is a Durham County Council facility and adults who can do so are asked to consider wearing face coverings when entering the building and using the restrooms. Hand sanitizers will be available at the front door and in the classroom, and work surfaces will be pre-cleaned. Tables will be set up to allow for some social distancing between households. All participants will be asked to log in and leave some contact details. This is partly for administrative purposes (particularly to let people know when the memorial is ready) and partly for NHS Test & Trace purposes.

The most important: if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19, or have been in contact with someone else who tests positive, please do not attend the session.

Participate: It would be very helpful if people wishing to participate could inform the organizers in advance, either on the social network where you saw the advertisement, or by email: martin.weston@durham.gov.uk
