Paris Saint-Germain are being declared the favorites to win the Champions League this season. Lionel Messi arrives from BarcelonaBut Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given a word of caution to manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Messi will team up with Brazilian superstar Neymar and French thriller Calpin Ampe to create an attacking front three, making it one of the most terrifying attacks in Europe this season. PSG is expected to steam up opponents in League 1 and eventually end their Champions League disappointment, which has led them to the final and semi-finals in the last two seasons.
Henry played alongside Messi and Samuel Eto’o in the 2009 Champions League-winning Barcelona squad, which was part of La Liga and the Copa del Rey under Pep Guardiola. The former French international has warned Pochettino that the arrival of the Argentine magician will not guarantee success, but that the “balance” he will find in the team will be crucial in moving forward.
“Balance is the most important thing,” Henry said. As referenced on Sport.. “In a moment, we always talk about the best players, attack, move on. But there has to be a balance.
“We talk about the team I played for at Barca (with Eto’o and Messi) but people forget that we didn’t score a lot of goals. Usually teams that don’t score a lot of goals. They are not far from the titles or the Champions Leagues, “he added.
The PSG had the second-best defensive record last season with 28 goals, just behind defending champions Lilly, who conceded just five less. Pochettino’s side started the current season with a back-to-back win but conceded three goals and are currently third due to a goal difference.
With Messi’s arrival adding to the attack, which could see the Argentine manager compromise on the balance of defense, Henry believes he could be troubled as the season progresses.
“It’s a little easier when you have superhuman players, but when I see how Paris is doing at the moment, they’re letting me score a lot. Things,” Henry said.
