A registered dietitian has shared a selection of some rather strange food combinations that can help improve your health.
Have you ever thought about mixing black grapes with onions to prevent blood clots, or mixing apples with leafy greens to improve your mood?
If the answer is no, then you are not alone.
Rob Hobson, who has a keen interest in food science, has discovered very unusual food combinations that have the potential to have a positive impact on your health.
According to daily starhe explains that black grapes are rich in the polyphenolic antioxidant catechin, which helps prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurological disorders.
Thus, he claims that when combined with onions, this duo can help prevent blood clots and improve cardiovascular health.
Other unique combinations include flavonoid-rich apples and leafy greens, which have a high content of dietary nitrates.
According to nutritionists, flavonoids and nitrates can increase the production of nitrous oxide and, as a result, help improve cognitive performance.

In addition, there are black pepper and turmeric that can be eaten together in dishes such as paprika and turmeric with turmeric if the seasoning includes black pepper.
Rob explains that turmeric contains an active ingredient known as curcumin, which is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.
But, Curcumin is not easily absorbed by the body, so black pepper comes to the rescue.
Rob notes that Black pepper contains piperine, which helps increase absorption, so when consumed together, paprika and black pepper can help with joint pain.
According to the nutritionist, another healthy dish is fish curry.
That’s because the dish contains a very unsuspecting duo – turmeric and oily fish, which have strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Meanwhile, according to a nutrition expert, eating banana and yogurt can help improve bone health and tackle problems with gut bacteria.
Rob also believes that garlic and honey can help with upper respiratory infections when eaten together, while almonds and berries can help prevent heart disease.
In response to a study of 2,000 adults that found that one in five had little or no understanding of vitamins and minerals and their role in the body, Rob, speaking on behalf of nutritional supplement brand Healthspan, commented: “We thrive on synergy and many of the things we create are them in our lives, without even suspecting that we are doing them.
From a biological point of view, the body needs synergy to function properly.”
“Food synergy is defined as how certain foods and the nutrients they contain work together to deliver health benefits more than individual foods alone.
“So, sometimes the simple combination of two items can amplify the impact it has on your health.”
