The cool air coming into your house is equal to the warm air coming out.

Energy expert Kevin advised families to keep drafts around doors and windows, as well as letterboxes and keyholes, from the cold.

“Leave this sausage dog draft and dig and use ball stockings or tights where needed,” he said.

Windows upgrade.

You can also upgrade your windows to retain heat and it doesn’t take a lot of luck – it can be an easy DIY task.

Energy expert Kevin shared: “Double or triple glazing is a great way to avoid the cold and keep your home warm.

“If you don’t have it, consider a DIY solution where you use a hair dryer to glue plastic film inside your windows – there are online kits for about £ 20.”

Hot air balloon

If you have an open, decorative fireplace, too much heat will escape the fireplace.

Kevin revealed that you can stop it and keep your home warm – without turning everything on.

He explained that a fireplace balloon – which basically plugs the way – can be purchased for around – 15 – £ 25. But, whatever you do, don’t light a fire without first removing it!

Floor shows.

Modern bare floor boards? Sure, they look great, but they can often allow cool air to enter the room, which is far from ideal if you’re sitting at a table or watching TV.

But, you can keep your house warm without turning on the heating by spraying on some comfortable carpets instead.

“It will help keep the carpets down, and you can buy gap filler kits for gaps 10 and up. It makes a big difference,” Kevin said.

Another easy and budget-friendly way to keep your home warm without heating it is to be aware of the rooms in your home and how they are used.

“If you have an unused room in your home – even if only on a temporary basis when someone is away from the university – then turn off the radiator completely and close the door,” Kevin said.

“It doesn’t matter if the room gets cold, and you can focus on keeping the rest of the property delicious.”
