A hero father drowned while saving the life of his disabled daughter when his mobility scooter collided with a canal.
Lawrence Casey, 86, died in Cornwall’s Big Canal after losing control of his mobility scooter on Wednesday after rescuing Jessica in the “last act of love”.
The family “selflessly helped” save Ms Casey’s life – she is now recovering at home, the family told the BBC.
In a statement, Mr Casey’s family said: “He was dedicated to caring for his disabled daughter and the last act of his love as a father was to lay down his life to save her.
“We sincerely thank the members of the public who unselfishly helped save his life.”
The family says Ms Casey, 20, suddenly lost control of her mobility scooter and fell into a canal.
Emergency services were called to the Big Canal at 5.20pm and Mr Casey’s death was confirmed at the scene.
