Glasgow Celtic FC pays tribute to former St. Mary’s pastor who died at the age of 62.

We had earlier reported that Monsignor Peter Smith had died after a long illness.

MGR Smith was pastor at St. Mary’s in Calton – the second oldest church in the Archdiocese of Glasgow and where Celtic FC was founded in 1888.

Arch Davis, 62, was a former chancellor of St. Paul’s Church in White Inch.

Tribute on Twitter, Celtic The FC wrote: “Everyone at Celtic Football Club is saddened by the death of Monsignor Peter Smith, former Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Glasgow and pastor of St. Mary’s, Calton.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Monsignor Smith’s family and fellow priests in this hour of grief.”

One man said: “A very intelligent sympathetic man and took great care of my aunt when she was in the hospital. RIP Monsignor Smith.”

Another added: “A true gentleman, his memories of his time at St. Mary’s, rest in peace.”
