Costa Coffee quietly raises hot drink prices by 6%

COSTA Coffee has quietly raised hot drink prices by 6% as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.

The UK’s largest coffee shop chain has increased coffee prices by 15p at high street branches and by 10p at self-service machines at Costa Express branches.

Costa fans will find the prices of their favorite coffee have gone up

The increase means that a small latte or cappuccino has gone up from £2.35 to £2.50 and a flat white from £2.45 to £2.60.

At the Costa Express vending machines, where customers pour themselves drinks, prices have also gone up.

Cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, hot chocolates and americanos have gone up from £2.40 to £2.50 for a regular one and from £2.70 to £2.80 for a large one.

The increase comes just weeks after industry experts warned that a combination of poor harvests, supply chain issues and higher transport costs have sent global coffee bean prices skyrocketing.

Costa has about 2,681 outlets across the country, despite the fact that many stores were closed during the pandemic, as well as another 10,000 self-service machines.

The increase comes just two years after the chain raised prices by 10% in early 2020 ahead of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The increase came despite coffee bean prices hitting a 13-year low and after The Sun reported that the company had changed cup sizes to give drinkers a third less.

The increase will hit the British, who are already grappling with a cost-of-living crisis.

Martin James of the Consumer Complaints Group, resolution.co.uksaid: “This price hike at Costa is another reminder that the cost of coffee is going to skyrocket this year.”

Small treats like a daily coffee on your morning commute or grocery shopping will start to hit people’s pockets, especially as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.”

Costa confirmed the price increase but declined to comment further.

The firm is the latest brand to raise prices as rising inflation raises costs for Britons across the board.

Inflation hit 5.5% this week as the cost of electricity bills, transportation and gasoline prices soared.

Last month, Nando raised prices by 8%, increasing the price of fan favorites.

Consumers are also likely to see prices rise this year for top brands such as Heinz beans, Magnum ice cream and Marmite.

And Heineken has warned that the prices of its beers, including those of Amstel and Birra Moretti, will rise to keep costs down as costs rise.

Drinkers have already been warned that the price of a pint in some parts of the country could reach £7 this year.
