Nordstream 2 gas pipeline construction operator Nordstream 2 AG has announced the completion of welding of the last pipe in the Baltic Sea.
In the near future, the Fortuna Pipe Layer will carry part of the second wire of the Buzz system under German waters to the bottom of the Baltic Sea. After that, the sunken part will be connected to the part that stretches off the coast of Germany.
“After that, the required pre-commissioning activities are carried out with the aim of getting the pipeline operational before the end of this year. Nordstream 2 will play a role in meeting the long-term needs of the European energy market for gas imports., Improving supply security and reliability, and providing gas under sensible economic conditions, “said a message posted on the company’s website.
Earlier on September 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Nord Stream 2 would be completed in a few days, after which the pipeline system would finally be launched. However, the minister did not announce an official launch date.
The outgoing head of the Austrian oil and gas company OMV Rainer Cell had earlier noted that the launch date of the Nordstream 2 gas pipeline system depends on the time required for facility certification.
