Even as he awaits his fate for next season, Lionel Messi looks upset as he continues to enjoy his summer vacation. Over the weekend, he was spotted on a luxury yacht in Ibiza with former teammates Cesc Fabregas and Luis Suarez, and their families.
The three families enjoyed some off-season time aboard the “Inspiration”, a lavishly designed yacht that reportedly costs .7 65.7kg a week on charter. According to the Daily Mail, they enjoyed the water on the shores of Ibiza, a popular Spanish party island, which is visited by millions of tourists every summer.
The three players included his wives Antonella Roccuzzo (Messi), Daniela Seyman (Fabregas) and Sofia Balbi (Suarez). Their children were with them on the yacht, and the dotting father was seen enjoying water sports and swimming with the youth.
Messi’s three sons, Thiago, eight, Matthew, five, and Cerro, three – along with his wife, Antonella – are thought to have opposed the decision to leave Barcelona last year. They have made their living in the city, and did not want to uproot themselves. This summer, it is believed that Messi has already agreed to extend his contract with the Catalan giant, but the club has yet to finalize the deal.
Even if Messi agrees to a 50% pay cut, Barcelona will not be able to register him unless he significantly reduces his wage bill. As it stands, they can’t even register their certified summer signature because they are still above the La Liga salary limit. Newcomers Sergio Aguero, Memphis DePay, Eric Garcia and Emerson are awaiting registration, but Messi has not been barred from signing a new contract.
However, Messi looked calm over the weekend, as he enjoyed his vacation with the former Barcelona star. Suarez was sold to Atletico Madrid last summer, where he played a key role in his new club’s La Liga title race and enjoyed a successful season. Fabregas, meanwhile, currently plays for League 1 side AS Monaco.
Argentina is still a free agent, with just two weeks to go before the new La Liga season begins.
