The two men approached the man at Camelon Crescent in Blantyre at about 1 p.m.
He was taken to hospital for treatment of head and face injuries.
The first suspect is described as a short-lived man, from a 6-foot-tall building and wearing all black clothes with his hood up.
The other is a white male, 6 feet tall and medium to thin. He was wearing a blue top and black shorts.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Detective Constable Gareth Laird of Camboslang CID said: “This seems to be an unprovoked attack and we are still checking the relevant CCTV footage for additional information.
“I would ask anyone who came forward with any information they had on Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Roads around that time. Maybe it didn’t seem important at the time but the information May be important for our investigation.
