Britney Spears is under investigation for allegedly killing her maid during an altercation at her home in Thousand Oaks, west of Los Angeles, on Monday.
The altercation took place at around 10:25 a.m. in which the pop star was said to have slapped an employee’s phone with his hand. According to TMZThe quarrel was over one of the singer’s dogs. The female staff took the animal to the doctor because there were problems with the pet’s treatment.
Spears confronted the employee when she returned and discussed her dog’s health. That was when the angry star allegedly changed the phone. House staff then called deputies home and filed a complaint with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Capt. Eric Buschu said the worker reported that “Ms. Spears hit him.”
The deputies immediately went to Spears’ home to investigate, where they learned that no one had been injured during the altercation. He also tried to contact the singer but she refused to talk to him, citing a possible legal issue. The sheriff’s office also confirmed that there were “no injuries” and that it was a “minor mistake.”
However, preliminary reports from the investigation will reportedly still be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for consideration. The DA will decide whether to charge Spears with the wrong battery, a criminal offense in California that involves intentional or illicit physical contact with another person.
Spears lawyer Matthew Rosengart called the battery allegations a “tabloid choice.” He believes the domestic worker’s report does not guarantee further investigation because “anyone can accuse.”
“It’s a thrilling tabloid fodder that’s nothing more than a ready-made one,” he said. BuzzFeed News.
A source familiar with the domestic worker’s battery allegations claimed that the sheriff’s office had assured Spears that the case would not go anywhere. Rosengart also stressed that the report “should have been closed immediately.”
