Kate Middleton’s favorite British high street label, Bowden, is re-releasing some of its salient features in a special capsule to celebrate her 30th birthday.
The brand was founded by Johnny Bowden in 1991 with eight men’s clothing products on his kitchen table, which have since been transformed into women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, based on their colors, prints and quality. Is famous for
Jane Campbell, who began modeling for Mini Bowden at the age of four, shot her 30th birthday campaign shot (photographed by Scott Trindle) in the same Scottish Highlands that was photographed 20 years ago. She models this collection, which was inspired by the best-selling, well-liked items of the last 30 years.
To make the capsule, the in-house design team searched through an extensive archive and early catalog, inspired by Bowden’s early days in the ’90s and early’ 00s. These include the Elizabeth Velvet Coat embellished with handmade paisley, the Holy Quilted Jacket with a removable faux fur oversized collar and the Charlotte French collar cardigan, as well as the famous Breton. Each style has been revived with a new twist for today’s customer.
The design team shares their three favorite pieces with me and the inspiration behind them.
Bowden Elizabeth Coat, 8 298.
The velvet coat has been a Bowden classic from the beginning because of its statement design and fun feel. We love heritage in Bowden, but it always needs to be updated with shape, print or color. Print always plays a big role in keeping things excited for us, our in-house print team always sketches and re-imagines things to keep things going. This season we’ve brought it back in a new look and updated it with a cyclical print, full of tones and to really elevate the vintage vibe of the 60’s.
Bowden Charlotte Cardigan, 130.
An instant classic, French collar cardigan is one of our most popular, best-selling products. We ran this style for at least 10 seasons when it first launched in one place in 15 different colors and we wanted to see if customers remembered it as much as we do. We looked at the Bowden Classics and played around with what they meant to us, working on them again and adding a point of difference, something you can’t find anywhere else that makes our style natural. Become Bowden.
Bowden Victoria Blazer, £ 110.
The Cord Blazer is a true Bowden classic due to its durable and tough temperament nature that helps you feel a little more stretched. It deserves a place in every closet. Think of complimentary contradictions and pair them with intricately printed dresses or, if you are more anti-print, team up with the feminine Victoriana ruffled blouse – we have a lot this season – or create a faux seal to keep you comfortable.
