FC Barcelona are busy compiling their squad for next season and young Alex Mariba has been caught in a crossfire. The club wants him to renew his contract, and is now resorting to bullying tactics to get him to write on paper.
Moriba knows what he wants from the club and his agents put forward their demands during negotiations to renew the contract with Bulgaria. However, the club’s resources are limited and they are unwilling to comply with any of the demands they initially made.
Thus, the 18-year-old has been included in the Barcelona B squad and is not training with Ronald Koeman’s first team this summer. This is despite the fact that he proved himself worthy of a place in the first team through his performances last season.
Barcelona are now anxious to close the deal, which could lead to the need to consider a number of other transfers this summer. Now, in addition to being demoted in the B team, Moriba was also left out of Friday’s B-side pre-season friendly against El Escala.
The administration has therefore made it clear that the player has no choice but to accept the offer on the table, or else he can end the season at a time that has permanently damaged his career. Can
Moriba’s contract expires at the end of next season, and he will leave for a free transfer next summer. He can wait for it, but a season on the bench doesn’t allow him to attract suitors. If he does not renew his contract with Barcelona, then he will have no choice but to stay out of the first team squad and possibly be forced into error.
Fortunately for both parties, the midfielder’s performance has attracted the attention of Premier League players such as Manchester City and Chelsea over the past season. The Catalan giants are keen on cash and the player who is unwilling to accept the offer can offer his current team, both of whom can opt for a summer foreign contract.
Time is running out in a few weeks and Barcelona need to decide whether to sell or keep another player on the payroll who may not be able to contribute to the pitch.
