Alex Colido has left Barcelona training camp in Germany to secure a move away from Camp Nou this summer. The versatile midfielder was allowed by the club to leave and find a solution before the transfer window closes later this month.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who can also work on the wings, made it clear in the club’s rankings that he has no interest in playing for the Barcelona B squad this season. He wanted to have a minute with the first team but his chances were slim and he decided to leave the club on a temporary basis.
Calado, who made his senior debut for Barcelona during the 2018/19 season under Ernesto Valverde, failed to make the first team last season. He was with Ronald Koeman’s team in Germany for pre-season training camp, and was an unused substitute for the 3-0 win over Stuttgart.
Following the victory over the Bundesliga side, the La Liga giants confirmed that Colorado had been allowed to leave the camp to settle their future. He is expected to join the Belgian club Club Brugge on a season-long loan.
“Alex is leaving the team’s training camp with the permission of the Colorado club, a resolution on his future is pending,” Barcelona said in a post on its social media channel.
The announcement made it clear that the decision was made before the Stuttgart game, which is why the manager did not give him a minute. Especially since he had both previous friendships against Gimnastic and Girona.
Calado has signed a contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2023, and the midfielder is looking to gain experience in the Belgian top league to return to fight for his place in Barcelona’s first team next season. The Barcelona B captain is widely regarded as one of Camp Nou’s coaches, and is seen as a potential future star.
